SAFEchild is the only local nonprofit child abuse prevention organization that collaborates directly with parents, children and communities, and works closely with Wake County Human Services and dozens of other public and private agencies to create safe, nurturing environments. We treat families with the respect and dignity they deserve to cultivate positive parenting practices. SAFEchild currently offers the following parent education and support programs: Moms Supporting Moms, offering support and education to new parents, including a support group for mothers experiencing a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder; Circle of Security Parenting, a 10-week group-based program that focuses on instilling a sense of security and confidence in children; Crianza con Cariño, for Spanish-speaking parents; and MOVE, for moms impacted by domestic violence. Funny Tummy Feelings is a one-hour interactive presentation offered at all Wake County elementary schools and several private and charter schools. It empowers elementary-aged children to protect themselves from physical and sexual abuse. The SAFEchild Advocacy Center is a nationally accredited community-based facility that provides medical evaluations for children when there is concern for sexual and/or physical abuse or serious neglect. All referrals to the SAFEchild Advocacy Center are through law enforcement or the District Attorney's office.
