North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services - Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides services to individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing, such as providing people with hearing loss or speech impediments telephones with special features and other equipment free of charge if they qualify; special features include amplified telephones with adjustable ringer volume; sound-, light-, or vibration-activated sensors that let the person know that the phone is ringing; TTYs (teletypewriters); large-screen and Braille TTYs; hearing aids; voice amplification and voice-controlled remote; and electronic speech aids (artificial larynx and stutter inhibitors); please note that if you apply for a telephone, you can't also apply for a hearing aid, and vice versa.
