'NAMIWalks Your Way Lake County, OH' fundraiser set for Oct. 8

News-Herald - 10/2/2022

Oct. 2—It's a new day for "NAMIWalks Your Way Lake County, OH," the annual fundraising and awareness event presented by the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Every year, NAMIWalks Your Way serves to raise funds for its free, "top-rated" programs, amplifies awareness to eliminate stigma and strengthens the ever-growing mental health community.

This year, the event takes place Oct. 8 at the Mentor Civic Amphitheater, 8600 Munson Road, with registration opening at 9 a.m. The walk kicks off at 10 a.m.

NAMIWalks Your Way Geauga County's event begins at the same time and will be held at 151 Chardon Ave. at the Chardon High School Track.

According to organizers and participants, the nonprofit is poised to take the award-winning event series to a new level and continue to be an integral part of the growing mental health movement.

"This year promises to be a banner year for the hundreds who turn out to help us move closer to our goal of 'Mental Health for All,' " officials stated in a news release, adding it's also a new day for mental health in America. "More people are speaking openly about mental health conditions than ever before, and the need for mental health services is on the rise...."

In addition to the 5K, the event will include:

—Sponsor and vendor tables

—Activities for children

—50/50 Raffle

—Giveaways

Leashed dogs are welcome, officials confirmed.

Participants can create teams, join as an individual walker, donate for a tribute sign, and share social media posts.

"This promises to be our most meaningful event ever," said Joanna Mannon, program coordinator. "We'll cheer each other on while raising our voices to be heard, united in our commitment to our cause, funds to build community in every sense of the word."
