Jill Zarin says anxiety, depression affected her time on ‘RHONY’

The New York Daily News - 6/1/2022

Jill Zarin is getting real about her time on reality television.

The original ”Real Housewives of New York City” star opened up about her mental health and the way it impacted her four seasons on the hit Bravo show.

“I’m medicated now,” the 58-year-old Long Island native told People in a new interview published Wednesday. “I suffer from anxiety and partial depression. I didn’t realize it before, but I wound up going to doctor and was prescribed medicine for it.”

The Jill and Ally entrepreneur who, as a result of her mental health struggles would deal with “circular thinking that I couldn’t break out of,” noted that she “got clinically depressed around the time [late husband] Bobby got very, very sick.”

During her time on the show, Zarin added that she was “hypersensitive to everything going on around me and quite paranoid that there were things going on I didn’t see.

“It wasn’t healthy for me,” she added.

The former reality star is “a lot calmer” these days, something she believes “fans will be surprised to see.”

“I’ve really matured,” said Zarin. “I’m still that empathetic, opinionated friend I’ve always been — because that’s really who I am, and you become more of yourself as you get older — but I also feel lighter. I’m a better Jill.”
