Want to run your next 5K inside the Marlins’ ballpark? Bonus: It benefits brain and mental health research

South Florida Sun Sentinel - 6/1/2022

There are many opportunities to run a 5K nearly every month in South Florida, but there aren’t any that get participants inside an MLB ballpark. Until now.

The inaugural Triple Play 5K will be held at loanDepot park on Nov. 5, and the the Miami Marlins Foundation and the University of Miami Health System will use the family-friendly event to help raise money for research devoted to brain health and mental wellness.

Participants can run or walk the course inside the stadium, while being able to choose the form of research that their donations will benefit.

Those who register can choose to help ALS research, Alzheimer’s research, Mental Health, Parkinson’s research or Stroke Awareness.

“With shared excitement for the launch of the Triple Play 5K, the UHealth Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Sciences are teaming up with the Miami Marlins to make an impact in funding research for our community,” Ralph L. Sacco, M.D., M.S., professor and chairman of neurology at the Miller School of Medicine, said in a statement.

The check-in for guests will begin at 7 a.m. with the race set to start at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $50 for adults and $35 for youth, and people can register at Marlins.com/TP5K
