Linn County Mental Health Access Center expands walk-in hours to include evenings
Gazette - 7/12/2021
Jul. 13—CEDAR RAPIDS — The Linn County Mental Health Access Center has expanded its walk-in hours.
As of Monday, people 18 and over who are experiencing a mental health or substance-use crisis can walk into the center without an appointment from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"We are getting closer each day to full operation," Access Center Director Erin Foster said.
Monday's change in hours marks another step toward walk-in access 24/7, but for now the center continues to build capacity.
The access center, at 501 13th St. NW, initially started offering walk-in hours in April, but only until 5 p.m. The center officially opened in March.
The East Central Mental Health Region funds the center, so anyone who resides in the following counties can receive services there: Linn, Johnson, Benton, Bremer, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Iowa and Jones.
The center — under the management of Linn County Community Services, a department within Linn County government — offers a host of services designed to assist people who are in crisis.
They include:
— Crisis triage and counseling
— Mental health evaluations
— Mental health prescriber appointments
— Peer support
— Crisis stabilization
— Substance use disorder patient support
— On-call substance use disorder clinical support
For services after hours, call the Foundation 2 Mobile Crisis Team at (319) 362-2174.
The center is not able to serve minors or those in need of immediate medical care or who are violent at arrival or immediately before arrival.
