Hello Network of Care, My mom very sick with schizophrenia and refuses to acknowledge she has an illness let alone go to a doctor. I'm doubtful she would hurt herself, but she has been mentally ill for a very long time and may be getting worse. Is there nothing I can do? She's unable to support herself financially or find work because of her mental state and how she behaves. There is absolutely nothing that will get her to seek mental help herself. I'd like to know if there is an answer and I'm tired of hearing she has to seek treatment herself because that is not an option. I'm in Jamestown New York and I recently moved here from Arizona. Again, there is nothing to get her to go to seek treatment herself. Please tell me there's something I can do... Thank you.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear of the troubles you and your mother are having. I would recommend contacting the National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York, which you can reach at (518) 462-2000 or find more information online at http://www.naminys.org/. They are an advocacy and support organization that will be able to point you in the direction of resources you can use both to help your mother, and for yourself. Hopefully they will be able to provide you with some guidance.

 Best,
